About

Our republic was founded on the principle that You are the government.™ The Independence Caucus exists to teach us how, as citizens, to govern our country and to provide the practical tools and resources to actually make it happen. The Independence Caucus is not a political party, nor is it affiliated with any political party.

Merriam-Webster Online defines “caucus” as a group of people united to promote an agreed-upon cause. The Independence Caucus is a not-for-profit organization of concerned citizens from all walks who recognize the responsibility to act now to protect future generations of this nation from the disastrous consequences of our unfathomable deficits and debts.

The Independence Caucus (also known as TIC, iCaucus, www.icaucus.org) is not a political party. It is the anti-incumbent, non-affiliated group of concerned citizens devoted to electing candidates truly committed to fiscal responsibility from whatever party. The goal is the election of such candidates to not less than 40% of the seats in the House and the Senate in 2010.

We began as a group of volunteers in Utah behind the election of Jason Chaffetz, who was previously unknown politically and outspent by more than a 6 to 1 margin by the incumbent. Through the efforts of iCaucus, Chaffetz defeated the 6-term, incumbent who was endorsed by the local Republican machine (the dominant party in Utah), the two sitting senators, and President Bush.

We have proven that big coffers and political machines can be defeated with the shear will and determination of US, THE PEOPLE seeking the alternative to the incumbents from both parties who have sold their ear to the highest bidder. The various bailouts were opposed by the people nearly 1,000 to 1 and yet incumbents from both parties supported their party’s bailouts and virtually 98% percent of them were re-elected.

Now Congressman Chaffetz, is a frequent guest on the Glenn Beck show. His commitment to Fiscal Responsibility and frugality is legendary. He is famous for sleeping on a cot in his Washington office. After the victory, iCaucus issued the friendly, but serious, warning to Jason that if he ever abandoned the commitments he made to the iCaucus and the people in general, we would work twice as hard to unseat him as we worked to elect him.

How did iCaucus do it in Utah despite all the odds? By exposing in plain detail the obscene money flow between lobbyists and the incumbent. iCaucus is prepared to do this in every House and Senate race in the nation. WITH YOUR HELP we can really do this! Together we CAN stop the corrupt sale of our tax code and federal resources at taxpayer’s (worse yet the next generation of taxpayer’s) expense by virtually all incumbents of both parties!

iCaucus has members in every state organizing to duplicate this success in their own congressional races.
